White House Launches New Public “Media Bias” Tracker
The initiative arrives as US President Donald Trump continues his extended clash with what he labels the "fake news media," terminology he has deployed for years to characterize journalism he views as erroneous or antagonistic.
Launched Friday, the monitoring tool exists as a standalone segment on the White House website bearing the tagline "Misleading. Biased. Exposed." The portal showcases weekly instances of journalism the government contests, providing links to source articles while classifying them under "Misrepresentation," "Omission of context," "Bias" or "Malpractice."
According to an official statement, the platform aims to function as a "record of the media's false and misleading stories flagged by the White House."
CBS News, The Boston Globe and The Independent appeared as inaugural entries in the "Media Offender of the Week" category. Officials alleged their coverage "misrepresents and exaggerates President Trump's calls for Democrat accountability," challenging articles that implied he advocated for the "execution" of legislators.
The "Offender Hall of Shame" segment—characterized as a "record of the media's false and misleading stories"—features organizations including The Washington Post, CBS News, CNN and MSNBC among numerous searchable records.
The rollout follows recent controversy surrounding improperly edited material in a BBC Panorama documentary called 'Trump: A Second Chance?' The broadcast, which premiered ahead of the US election last November, combined fragments from a 2021 address to portray Trump inciting the January 6 disturbance by instructing supporters to "fight like hell" at the Capitol.
The state-funded British network released an official apology following Trump's threat of a $1 billion lawsuit against the organization for "defamation."
Multiple US news organizations, including CBS and ABC News, have recently resolved legal actions filed by the president. He has consistently maintained that most establishment media outlets lean left and display prejudice toward conservatives, charging them with circulating fabricated narratives to weaken his administration.
Following its designation as a "repeat offender," The Washington Post responded that it stays "proud of its accurate, rigorous journalism."
